Freelance is an action comedy directed by Maya Chen. John Cena plays a heroic role. The main plot involves how a man returns to his routine after a tragedy, with some plot twists in the middle. It’s an action-packed adventure that follows the journey of Mason Pettits, played by John Cena, a soldier-turned-lawyer who finds himself in the middle of a wild and dangerous mission.
Story
Mason (John Cena) used to be a part of special forces. But some incident made him leave this force. Then he started working as a boring lawyer. His old friend Sebastian Earle(Christian Slater) offers him a mission as a bodyguard. This will bring back his previous job experience. The mission is to protect the journalist Claire Wellington (Alison Brie). They go on a trip to a war prone country called paldonia. Claire has to interview the controversial president, Juan venegas (Juan pablo Raba).
In the middle of the interview a military group breaks and starts firing. That makes it very dangerous. Mason and Claire fight for their lives and have to leave the country. After the fight he came to know that the bad guys were actually the people who he used to know. Mason and Claire become friends and the story goes on.
Mason tries to do the right thing and he has to protect the people he loves. It also reveals some secrets from the past. The movie is full of action, lots of fighting and suspense. Freelance is full of fun escapes and lots of explosive fight and suspense moments. The movie also has some heart warming moments. And even some of the moments stand out and it’s mind blowing. Its different from other films. However, the movie doesn’t go too deep into the story.
Freelance tries to balance the action with jokes. John Cena with his usual charm, doesn’t make it a comedy film. But all the action sequences were phenomenal. That credit must be given to the director, Pierre Morel.
